The pomelo plant, scientifically known as Citrus maxima or Citrus grandis, is believed to have originated in Southeast Asia, particularly in Malaysia and Indonesia. It is one of the four original citrus species from which all other cultivated citrus fruits have been derived.
Pomelo trees have glossy, dark green, and oval-shaped leaves and produce fragrant white flowers, adding to their overall appeal.
The flavor of pomelo is unique and refreshing. It is generally described as sweet, mildly acidic, and less tangy compared to grapefruits, and is a delicious snack! The texture of the segments can range from slightly firm to juicy and succulent.
