Citrus aurantifolia, commonly known as Key lime or Mexican lime, is a small, aromatic citrus tree with dense foliage that resembles a shrub. The plant is sensitive to cold temperatures. Its pure white flowers are highly fragrant. The fruits are small, approximately 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter, round, with a thin, smooth, yellow-green skin that becomes highly aromatic when ripe, and is very juicy.
The flesh is yellow-green in color, extremely acidic in taste, and has a fine texture with seeds. Key lime plants bloom from late winter to spring, followed by the delightful emergence of fruits soon after.
Embrace the vibrant flavors and fragrances of the Key lime tree, and let its remarkable qualities enhance your gardening experience. From its aromatic foliage to the delightful bounty of small, round fruits, the Key lime plant is a treasure to behold. Discover the joy of cultivating this exquisite citrus variety and bring a touch of tropical charm to your garden or living space.
Plant Care
This plant prefers well-draining soil that is nutrient dense and has good moisture-holding capacity. High nitrogen demands. Provide regular watering throughout flowering and fruiting season. Place the plant in a slightly shady spot.
When you receive your plant, we suggest amending your soil with coco coir or coco perlite to keep your mix fluffy and make the best environment for the roots to establish and grow healthy.
- Propagation Method: Grafted plant, ready to produce fruit within 1 year with proper care.
- Fertilility: Self-fertilizes, but better with a second plant (cross-pollination improves fruit set).
- Temperature Tolerance: Ideal Minimum: 15 C - Minimum Tolerated (briefly): 10 C
