Also known as Calamansi or Citrofortunella microcarpa.
The variegated calamondin plant is an absolute treat to look at, but that's not all! It also produces fruit year-round!
The calamondin fruit, often referred to as the "golden lime", can be used to make marmalades, jams, sauces, marinades, and cocktails, or to add a zesty kick to any dish. The fruit has a thin, smooth, and shiny skin that is deep orange when ripe, and is delicately fragrant with a sweet and tangy flavor that is reminiscent of a blend of mandarin oranges and lemons.
This plant is highly prized for its ornamental value as its small stature and compact growth make it an ideal choice for small gardens, patios, and balconies. Its attractive foliage and colorful fruit add a touch of tropical flair to any landscape.
- Propagation Method: Grafted plant, ready to produce fruit within 1 year with proper care.
- Fertility: Self-fertilizes, better with a second plant (cross-pollination improves fruit set).
- Temperature Tolerance:
- Ideal Minimum: 15 C
- Minimum Tolerated (briefly): 10 C
Plant Care
To care for a Calamondin tree, plant it in well-draining, slightly acidic soil and place it in full sun. It can tolerate lower temperatures better than other citrus trees but should be moved indoors during Canadian winters. Calamondin is relatively drought-tolerant, so it's better to underwater than overwater it. Use a balanced fertilizer during spring and summer.
Shipping
Please note that all plants are heavily trimmed/pruned and packed as bare-root plants for shipping. Roots are kept moist with a mixture of coco coir and super-absorbent polymers that can be shaken off for planting.
Please note that you will need a pot and soil to plant your fruit tree upon arrival.
