The Theobroma cacao is also known as the Cocoa tree. It's what chocolate is made of!
This plant is a must-have for any gardener who loves unique and delicious crops. Our cacao plant is specially cultivated to ensure a robust root system, which means you can expect a healthy and productive tree that will thrive in a variety of climates.
Not only is this cacao plant productive (if pollinated correctly), but it also boasts striking glossy green leaves and fragrant flowers, making it an eye-catching addition to any garden. With proper care and maintenance, you can harvest your very own cacao pods and transform them into your homemade chocolate treats or just eat them raw.
Plant Care
For optimal growth, plant your cacao tree in a well-draining mix with protection from strong winds and harsh sun. This plant prefers the shade and usually grows underneath other large trees. Keep in a humid environment. Use mulch or coco chips to maintain soil moisture. Regularly water and fertilize to meet its high food and moisture needs.
We suggest amending your soil with coco coir or coco perlite to keep your mix fluffy and make the best environment for the roots to establish and grow healthy.
- Propagation Method: Grown from seed
- Fertility: Does not self-fertilize. Place it outside during the summer for insect pollination or manually fertilize it for higher yields.
- Temperature Tolerance
- Ideal Minimum: 18 C
- Minimum Tolerated (briefly): 15 C
Shipping
Please note that all plants are heavily trimmed/pruned and packed as bare-root plants for shipping. Roots are kept moist with a mixture of coco coir and super-absorbent polymers that can be shaken off for planting.
Please note that you will need a pot and soil to plant your fruit tree upon arrival.
