The Kokopo Banana is a rare and exciting banana variety prized for its flavorful, dessert-quality fruit and exotic appeal. The bananas are small to medium in size with a smooth, creamy texture and a rich, sweet flavor that’s deeper and more aromatic than common grocery-store bananas perfect for fresh eating, smoothies, and desserts.

What truly sets Kokopo apart is the experience of harvesting unique, homegrown bananas that feel special and hard to find. Also, it can go from planting to fruiting in a few months. If you’re looking for a banana plant that delivers both standout flavor and serious collector appeal, Musa Kokopo is a great choice. The Kokopo banana fruit is unusual in that it holds orange pulp, which is a sign of high vitamin A and beta carotene content. It can be eaten ripe, but is also a popular cooking ingredient.

Plant Care

Keep in bright, indirect sunlight daily. Protect it from frost and chilly drafts, as it prefers warm temperatures. Use well-draining, rich soil. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, and water when the top inch feels dry. Bananas are thirsty plants underwatering is a common mistake. During the growing season (spring and summer), feed with a balanced fertilizer 2-3 times per week as bananas are heavy feeders.

  • Propagation Method: Division/TC, ready to produce fruit within 1-2 years with proper care.
  • Temperature Tolerance:
    • Ideal Minimum: 18 C
    • Minimum Tolerated (briefly): 15 C
