Also known as Awapuhi or Pinecone ginger.
With vibrant green foliage and unique cone-like flowers, the Awapuhi Plant is a wonder to behold. Each flower boasts a beautiful form, and rubbery texture and carries a delicate, but unmistakable ginger scent, infusing a touch of tranquility into any space. It is called the shampoo plant because it produces a shampoo-like liquid that has been traditionally used in natural hair care.
This plant does not take up much space horizontally, but it can grow to about 4-6 ft tall. Add one to your space and transport yourself to the beauty of the tropics.
Plant Care
You will receive a rhizome which you will need to plant into well-draining soil. Under the right conditions, the plant will put out new growth from the rhizome. Please note that the growth rate for these plants may vary, but once it starts going you will see consistent growth.
The ideal environment for the shampoo ginger plant is hot and humid, with filtered shade, and moist soil. If you can provide that environment, give it a shot and grow your shampoo plant at home!
Temperature Tolerance
Ideal Minimum: 15 C
Minimum Tolerated (briefly): Unknown. This is a tropical plant, so prolonged exposure to cold temperatures will affect or kill it.
