Also known as Buddha's Hand Citron.
This citrus variety is celebrated for its extraordinary fruit, which resembles multiple elongated yellow fingers extending from a central base. The fruit's shape is reminiscent of the fingers of a hand in a gesture of prayer or meditation, hence its name. Unlike traditional citrus fruits, the Buddha's Hand doesn't have a typical segmented or pulpy interior. Instead, it's all about the aromatic zest of its rind. The zest of this fruit is highly fragrant, releasing a powerful, lemony-citrus aroma that can infuse your surroundings with a delightful, uplifting scent. This makes it a popular choice for both culinary and ornamental use.
The Buddha's Hand Plant is an attractive, compact evergreen tree with lush, dark green foliage and a visually striking appearance. It's relatively easy to care for and can flourish in various garden settings. Explore the world of unusual citrus with this fascinating and aromatic addition to your garden.
Plant Care
Keep in bright, indirect sunlight and should receive a minimum of 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Protect it from frost and chilly drafts, as it prefers warm temperatures. Use well-draining, slightly acidic soil rich in organic matter, particularly in pots. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, and water when the top inch feels dry. During the growing season (spring and summer), feed your Buddha's Hand with a balanced fertilizer. Prune as needed to maintain shape and remove dead branches. Be vigilant against common citrus pests.
- Propagation Method: Grafted plant, ready to produce fruit within 1-2 years with proper care.
- Fertility: Self-fertilizes
- Temperature Tolerance:
- Ideal Minimum: 15 C
- Minimum Tolerated (briefly): 10 C
